Question

The weight of the body at a certain place is 30 N. The acceleration due to gravity at that point is 10 m/s2. Find out the weight of the object at the place where the acceleration due to gravity is 5 m/s2?

  1. 30 N
  2. 10 N
  3. 15 N
  4. 5 N

hintHint:

Use the relation weight= mass x gravity

The correct answer is: 15 N

    The correct option is c)15 N.
    Given :
    weight of object= 30 N
    Acceleration due to gravity = 10m/s2
    Now, we know ,
    weight = mass x gravity
    30 = mass x 10
    mass= 3 kg
    Now we need to find the weight of the object when the acceleration due to gravity is 5 m/s2.
    We know that the mass of the object remains same as it independent of gravity.
    Now,
    Weight = mass x gravity
    = 3 x 5
    weight = 15N.
