Question

Ramu can complete fraction numerator 1 over denominator 4 end fraction of the work in 5 days and Ravi can complete fraction numerator 1 over denominator 5 end fraction of the same work in 6 days How long would both of them take to complete that work, if they work together ?

  1. 18 days
  2. 12 days
  3. 16 days
  4. 20 days

The correct answer is: 12 days

To find the number of days take to complete that work, if Ramu and Ravi work together.
Ramu can complete fraction numerator 1 over denominator 4 end fraction of the work in 5 days.
    1 day work of Ramu = 1 over 20 = 0.05.
Ravi can complete fraction numerator 1 over denominator 5 end fraction of the same work in 6 days.
    1 day work of Ravi = 1 over 30 = 0.0333.
    1 day work if they work together = 0.05+0.0333 = 0.0833.
Total number of days that take to complete the work if they work together = fraction numerator 1 over denominator 0.0833 end fraction = 12.

Therefore, to complete the work, It takes 12 days if they work together.
