Question

The graph of the linear function f is shown in the xy-plane above. The slope of the graph of the linear function g is 4 times the slope of the graph of f. If the graph of g passes through the point ( 0, −4), what is the value of g(9 ) ?

  1. 5
  2. 9
  3. 14
  4. 18

The correct answer is: 14

    For solving this question we have to find the slope ,
    The slope of a line = rise/run
    And this can be calculated using the coordinates of any two points on the line.
    For example, we can see the graph of f passes through the points (0, 3) and (2,4)
    So, the slope of the graph of f is
    m = (4-3)/(2-0) = ½
    It is given that ,the slope of the graph of function g is 4 times the slope of the graph of f, so the slope of the graph of g is
    4 (½) = 2
    Since the point (0, −4) is the y-intercept of g,
    g is defined as g(x) = 2x − 4.
    So, this follows that
    g(9) = 2(9) − 4 = 14
    Therefore, the value of g(9) is 14
