$x squared equals 3 squared plus 4 squared$
Taking square root on both the sides of the equation, we get
$√ left parenthesis x squared right parenthesis equals plus-or-minus √ left parenthesis 3 squared plus 4 squared right parenthesis$
$x equals plus-or-minus √ 25$
$x equals plus-or-minus 5$
Since the length of the ladder cannot be negative, x= 5 units
