Question
What is the perimeter of the rectangle where the length and width are 5x m and 2x m, respectively?
- 14x m
- 12x m
- 100x m
- 10x m
Hint:
In this question, we are given two terms. One is length of the rectangle and other is width of rectangle. We are asked to find the perimeter of the rectangle. Perimeter means the length of the boundary of the given shape. We have to find the right operation between the given terms to find the perimeter of the triangle.
The correct answer is: 14x m
The given values for length and width of rectangle are given.
Length = 5x m
Width = 2x m
We have to find the perimeter of a rectangle. We know that perimeter means the total length of the boundary of the shape. As a rectangle has four sides, we will have to add them to get the length of complete boundary, or in other words a perimeter. Rectangle has opposite sides equal. So to find a perimeter we will have to take length and breadth twice.
The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle will be twice the sum of length and breadth.
Perimeter = 2( length + width )
Substituting the respective values, we get
Perimeter = 2(5x+2x)
As there are two with the same variable, we can add them directly like normal numbers.
Perimeter = 2(7x)
Perimeter = 14x m
Therefore, the perimeter of the rectangle will be 14x m.
So option which is ‘14x m’, is the right option.
For such questions, we must know the formulas for area and perimeter of different shapes. We also have to be careful to see if we are dealing with same variables or different variables.
