Question

A Solid metal cylinder of radius 14 cm and height 21 cm is melted down and recast into spheres of radius 3.5 cm . Calculate the number of spheres that can be made ?

hintHint:

Volume of the sphere is 4 over 3 pi r cubed
Volume of a cylinder is pi r squared h.

The correct answer is: 72

    Explanation:
    • We have given a Solid metal cylinder of radius 14 cm and height 21 cm is melted down and recast into spheres of radius 3.5 cm
    • We have to find the number of spheres that can be made.
The radius of solid cylinder is 14cm and height 21cm and the radius of new sphere3.5cm is
The volume of cylinder will be

    V equals pi r squared h

equals pi left parenthesis 14 right parenthesis squared cross times 21
    equals 12936 cm cubed
    Volume of New sphere is

    V equals 4 over 3 pi r cubed

equals 4 over 3 pi left parenthesis 3.5 right parenthesis cubed

    =179.66
Number of spherical ball will be

    fraction numerator v o l space o f space c y l i n d e r over denominator v o l space o f space s h e r e end fraction

fraction numerator 12936 over denominator 179.66 end fraction

    = 72.002
Therefore the number of sphere will be 72.
