Question

# Hari rides his bike from his home for 30 minutes at a fast pace. He stops to rest for 20 minutes and then continues in the same direction at a slower pace for 30 more minutes. Sketch a graph of the relationship of Hari’s distance from home over time ?

Hint:

### Try to figure out slope of the line in different

circumstances.

## The correct answer is: Slope is positive from x = 50 to x = 80, but the inclination is less.

### SOL – Let distance travelled = yTime taken = x

The graph will start from origin since at time, x = 0 distance travelled, y = 0

Acc. to the question, Hari travelled on fast pace for 30 mins.

i.e., distance is increasing, and slope is positive for x = 0 to

x = 30

Then Hari stopped for 20 mins, i.e., distance remained same.

Line is parallel to x – axis

Slope of the line = 0 for x = 30 to x = 50

Further, Hari travelled on slow pace for next 30 min

i.e., distance is increasing but rate of change is less than first case since his pace is slow

Slope is positive from x = 50 to x = 80, but the inclination is less.
