Question

Solve the following by using the method of substitution
X =  2Y+ 3
11Y - 5X = -14

hintHint:

find y by substituting x (in terms of y) in the equation and find x by substituting value of  y in the equations.

The correct answer is: x = 5 and y = 1 is the solution of the given pair of equations

    Ans :-  x = 5 ; y = 1
    Explanation :-
    ⇒  x = 2y + 3  — eq 1
    11y - 5x =  -14—- eq 2
    Step 1 :- find y by substituting x = 2y + 3 in eq 2.
    11y – 5 (2y + 3) = -14  ⇒  11y - 10y – 15  = -14
    ⇒  y – 15 = -14  ⇒ y = 15 -14
    ⇒ y = 1
    Step 2 :- substitute value of y and find x
    ⇒  x = 2y + 3 ⇒ x = 2 (1) + 3
    ∴  x = 5
    ∴  x = 5 and y = 1  is the solution of the given pair of equations
