The College Board administers the SAT exam seven times a year, but students are often confused about when to take it. It is scheduled from August 2022 to June 2023 for the fiscal year 2022-23. The time you select to take the SAT depends entirely on your university choice and preparation for the test. Always attempt to offer an early test so that you may retake it with greater preparation before the college application deadline. There are also SAT school days, which will be discussed more in this article. Dive into this piece to learn about the best time to take the SAT and whether or not the December SAT is helpful for your college application.

The December SAT for the year 2022-23 has been set to December 3, 2022, with a registration deadline of November 3, 2022, and a late registration deadline of November 22, 2022.

You should always try registering before the deadline as it costs around 55 USD, but if you exceed the deadline, it’ll cost you 30 USD extra. The deadline for SAT modifications, such as altering your test center location or changing your name on your admission ticket, is November 22. Some of these modifications will be subject to a 25 USD charge.

When do December SATscores come out?

The SAT December scores are not immediately released after you take the exam. Generally, it takes about two weeks to release the score. When December SAT scores come out? Beginning December 17, you can get your December SAT scores online. You can also retrieve your scores by phone on that day; however, this service costs $15 per call. Most college boards take a bit more time grading SAT papers as it is around the corner. If you don’t receive your score, you can contact the school board to get it. The colleges you send your four free score reports to should receive your SAT results within ten days, which is December 27 for this December SAT. Your test results will most likely be available before January 1. Because most institutions have a January 1 deadline for college applications, the December SAT is a disadvantage. Let’s get to the bottom of whether you should take the December SAT or not.

Should You Take It?

By the spring of your eleventh-grade year, you should have covered most of the fundamental topics required for the SAT. The college administration suggested that you take your SAT during this period rather than the December SAT. Many college counselors prefer the March SAT exam date. Because this is an early opportunity, you will have plenty of time to retake the test later.

You may also apply early to numerous universities where the deadlines are earlier than others. However, if you wait until the fall of your senior year, you will have missed many retake opportunities and may have missed certain college application deadlines.

  • As previously mentioned, SAT occurs multiple times a year. If you are a junior, you should consider taking it multiple times to achieve the highest score possible. Many students take it two to three times. You should take your first SAT anytime during your junior year to allow for retakes, and the December SAT might be a wonderful first test date. It will provide you with many opportunities for retakes, such as in the spring of your junior year, the summer before your senior year, and the fall of your senior year. But if you are a high school senior, Dec SAT is not a good option.
  • You should remember the deadlines if you are in your senior year and applying for colleges. Check the test result dates of each school you’re applying to before signing up for the SAT, and call the admissions office if anything is unclear. December SAT is your last chance, and if you need to squeeze in a last SAT date, the December SAT is generally the last SAT date that institutions will accept results from. However, some institutions may refuse to accept December SAT results since they received them too late.
  • As December SAT is your last shot as a senior, if you don’t get the desired score, you won’t have any more time for retakes. You will lose your chance with the SAT. Suppose you haven’t taken the SAT before or have a certain score target. In that case, we strongly advise you to sign up for one of the earlier examinations in November or October, in addition to the December exam. That provides you with at least one retake choice if necessary.
  • The December SAT has one major disadvantage: it will not be considered for an early decision in most colleges. While some colleges accept November SAT scores for applicants pursuing early action or decisions, almost no institutions accept December SAT results. So, Dec SAT is not an option for you if you want an early decision.

Major Drawback of December SAT

  • College decision dates are often around January 1. The early action and early decision deadlines, which allow you to apply to schools sooner, are generally in November. Check the college application processes at your schools since deadlines and criteria differ. Remember that it takes time for the College Board to process your SAT scores and distribute them to colleges. Scores are typically accessible online two weeks after the test.
  • Colleges typically require ten days to receive and process your scores at that point. While some institutions may hold a strong application until SAT results are received, many reject late applicants. Take your final SAT at least 6-8 weeks before the earliest college application deadline.

Some high schools and districts participate in SAT School Day, which occurs on a weekday when a school administers the SAT. This allows you to take the SAT in a familiar setting while avoiding potential obstacles such as arranging transportation to and from a testing location. Some colleges may even waive student registration expenses. The years 2022-23 are scheduled for October 2022, March 2023, and April 2023.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1.How many times can you take the SAT?

Ans:There is no limit to how many times you may take the SAT. The College Board advises that all test takers take the exam at least twice since evidence suggests that a second try increases your SAT score. However, it’s doubtful that you’ll continue to experience dramatic changes beyond 2-4 times. Furthermore, the more SAT dates you sign up for, the more money you’ll have to pay in registration costs (unless you qualify for a fee waiver).

Q2.Can I take December SAT?

Ans: In October, November, December, January, May, and June, the SAT is administered offline. You can take the SAT during any of these months, and there is no limit on the number of exams you can take.

Q3.Is the December SAT too late?

Ans: The December SAT is only too late if you are in your senior year. Most colleges have deadlines near, and some don’t accept Dec SAT scores in early decisions. You should give SAT for the first time in the spring of your junior year and then again in the fall before college application deadlines. Most students who retake the SAT improve their scores, and some take it more than once.
