Brody School of Medicine

Greenville, the cultural, educational, and economic centre of eastern North Carolina, is home to ECU. The Main Campus is located in close vicinity. The Brody School of Medicine is housed in this seven-story structure.


A 40-year-old Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University’s medical school, emphasises primary care. In 1974, the school developed three missions, which continue to serve as a guiding framework for their overall educational efforts.

Brody School of Medicine is a U.S. medical school preparing a diverse physician workforce. BSOM leads family medicine and primary care at the state and national levels. It is the number one medical school in the Southeast United States and North Carolina for graduates who practice primary care five years after graduating. The school leads Primary Care Specialties and develops and keeps primary care physicians in North Carolina. 


The little community of around 90,000 people is located 50 miles east of Raleigh and is ranked No. 2 in the country for Best Small Metro for Business and Careers in the United States by Greenville is a short drive from coastal and beach resorts, the Outer Banks, Richmond, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The American Academy of Family Physicians placed the Brody School of Medicine second in the US and first in North Carolina for sending its medical graduates into family medicine.

Admission to Brody School of Medicine

At the time of application, all applicants must be legal NC residents.

  • All Brody School of Medicine applicants must take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). The average numerical MCAT score for the incoming class in prior years was 508, or the 74th percentile of all takers, while the average scientific GPA for the class was around 3.6.
  • Three individual letters are required, two of which should be academic (one from a science instructor), the third a personal reference (from an employer, advisor, or another non-family individual), or one letter from your undergraduate school’s Pre-Medical Advisory Committee.
  • The Early Enrollment Initiative is a national initiative in which most candidates from throughout the country participate. The ED Program is intended to assist both applicants and medical schools. Anyone who applies via the program not admitted is automatically rolled into the BSOM’s normal enrollment category.
  • Similarly, 8 of the total seats in the BSOM beginning semester are reserved under the EAP for qualified students at East Carolina University, NC, A&T, or UNC Pembroke.
  • The applicant must have completed one year of the following courses with good grades. An extra year of English or writing-intensive courses and advanced level biology courses is strongly advised.

Admission Information

BSOM filing dates are May 2022 – November 2022.

  • After receiving a validated AMCAS application, an application link is emailed to you.
  • From the beginning of the 2022 – 2023 cycle, all applicants will not be invited to submit a supplemental application. Invitations are sent following the initial application evaluation.
  • $70 non-refundable application cost.
  • A recent MCAT score is necessary.

Admission information for International Students

ECU accepts international applicants who have completed their education with a college prep syllabus, have achieved the necessary GPA, presented college transcripts, and have provided validated funding backing for one academic year while abiding by the timelines.

There is a $100 deposit fee within three weeks of notification of acceptance. The offer letter will include instructions for the mode of payment.

Tuition and fees include direct expenditures, including an exam and health-related fees, but do not include health insurance costs. The living expenses include accommodation and board, food, and transportation.
