Grammar Adjectives

Definition

An adjective could be defined as those words which are used to modify or describe a noun or a pronoun.

Examples of some common adjectives:

  1. Kevin is an adorable baby.
  2. Lara’s hair is gorgeous.
  3. This glass is  breakable.
  4. I met a homeless man in NY.

Types of adjectives

These are some of the common types of adjectives:

  • Proper adjective
  • Descriptive, qualitative, or attributive adjective
  • Quantitative adjective
  • Numeral adjective
  • Demonstrative adjective
  • Distributive adjective
  • Interrogative adjective
  • Possessive adjective
  • Compound adjective 
  • Indefinite adjectives 
  • Coordinate adjectives 
  • Predicate adjectives 

Examples of different types of adjectives are: 

  • I love Chinese food.  (Proper) 
  • Look at the blue sea. (Descriptive) 
  • All students are present today. (Quantitative) 
  • I saw a pretty girl.  (Attributive) 
  • This book is interesting. (Demonstrative) 
  • Every student has attended the test.  (Distributive) 
  • Whose bag is it?  (Interrogative) 
  • Johnny is my pet cat.  (Possessive) 
  • Bruno is a well-behaved dog.  (Compound) 
  • The girl was pretty. (Predicative)
