What are Literature Elements ? 

A literary element, also known as a narrative element or a literary element, is an important feature of all works of written and spoken narrative fiction. Plot, theme, character, and tone are all literary components. 

Types of Literature Elements

What is an Allegory ? 

An allegory is  

  • A story that reveals a deeper meaning, concept, or idea. 
  • The deeper meaning can be thought of as a “moral of the story”. 

Purpose of an Allegory : 

  • Helps the reader understand a deeper concept. 
  • Helps makes your writing more interesting. 

Example : 

Rabbit and tortoise 

The Moral of the story is slow and steady wins the race

Therefore the moral would be the allegory  

What is an Alliteration? 

A systematic writing technique in which words in a sentence (or phrase) have the same, repeating first consonant sound. 

This is used by the author to make their writing more interesting. 

Examples 

  • Peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. 
  • Sally sells seashells by the seashore. 

What is Analysis ? 

Analysis  refers to the way you understand something by looking at it in different ways and studying its different parts.

What is an Antagonist? 

An antagonist is someone who opposes someone else.  

Example : 

In Superman comics, the antagonist is Lex Luthor, evil genius and archenemy of the superhero. 

What is an Character? 

Characters are people and animals in the story.  

Example : 

In rabbit and tortoise story, Rabbit and tortoise are characters. 

What is Characterization? 

The word characterization describes how something is represented. 

Example : 

In rabbit and tortoise story, describes the nature of characters 

What is Chiaroscuro ?

Chiaroscuro is an Italian term for the dramatic effect of contrasting areas of dark and light in a work of art, particularly a painting. It is formed by combining the Italian words for “dark” and “light.” 

What is Climax? 

  A climax is a high point. 

Example : 

In rabbit and tortoise story, the climax is tortoise wins the race 

What is Conflict? 

  A conflict is an opposition or a struggle. 

Example : 

If you and your best friend both fall in love with the same person, you’ll have to work a way out to resolve the conflict. 

What is Connotation? 

A  connotation is when you’re talking about the implied subtext of words rather than their literal meaning 

Example : 

Because of the bad connotations that the term “boss” carries, a political boss may not want to be called such. 

What is Denotation? 

  The literal meaning of a word or name is called denotation. 

Example : 

Although the word “Paris” conjures up images of romance, its literal meaning is “the city of an ancient tribe known as the Parisii.” 

What is Denouement? 

  Denouement is the outcome of a complex sequence of events 

Example : 

 In the story rabbit and tortoise, the outcome of race is tortoise wins the race 

What is a Dialogue? 

  Dialogues are the  words or  conversation between two persons 

Example : 

In the story rabbit and tortoise, the sentences or the words used by the Rabbit and tortoise are known as dialogues 

What is a Drama? 

  Drama is the quality of being arresting or highly emotional 

Example : 

 A dramatic work intended for performance by actors on a stage 

What is a Exposition? 

  An exposition can be the section of a story that explains the basics of the tale.
